The Beer Bang- how it all started!

Right, I’m eventually getting a few moments to type this little blog up. The intention was to make this public on my first brew, telling you all a little

more about us at To The Moon (TTM) Brewery. But maybe it is a little better to have a handful of followers that would read it.

We have been ridiculously busy. In fairness it always has been but these last 7 months have topped it all. In hindsight, I probably was a little silly to think that setting up a brewery whilst working full time, having our first child, maintaining a marriage and stopping my dog from the daily shredding of furniture would be easy. As it turns out, it has been really tough (it is all self inflicted so no sympathy expected). However, as hard as it has been, it has been amazing. We haven’t really had any chance to self reflect on what we have done and achieve but shit…we have done a lot.

For those of you who are not familiar with TTM, we are a nanoscale brewery based in Bramhall, Stockport. Hops are our game and feature in copious amounts in all our beers. Those that are more familiar with us may have tried versions of Apollo, Io, DDH Pale and Europa in some of the best bars/pubs in Stockport, Manchester and (so far a little) beyond. We’re blown away by the reception we have had so far.

You could say that our initial success is owed to our beer…it is, I am not going to deny that. However, the craft ale scene in Manchester/Stockport is more than part responsible. After 6 months we would not be here without the GM (Greater Manchester) craft ale scene who have shown their passion by listening to our dream, listening about who we are, listening how we want to improve and investing in a keg from us. I love that, very few industries are like this…and trust me, my day job is in sales.

But like all markets, things are always improving and that’s what we intend to do. We need to improve more than everyone else to get ahead of the game. We are trying with our 60 hour weeks, whilst driving my wife potty to describe the flavour profile of my brews on a day to day basis (they really do change a lot!!!!). We have transitioned from a 20L brew system to a 600L beast. It at least feels like a beast of a system to us.

We are starting to get the hang of it, we are tuning, modifying and improving all aspects of our recipes and processes. Keep giving us a try, you are on the journey with us. You’ll drink some decent beer along the way and maybe, just maybe, help us to make some of the best beers in Manchester.
